One Defense Wonder

Most of the arena has cleared out. Nearly every fan has left the Georgia Dome, there are a few stragglers inside the arena and in the parking lot hoping to get a picture or autograph of their favorite superstar. Even a few groupies looking to hook up with a wrestler. The ring crew has already begun to dismantle the stage area and gather lighting for the next show. One person however hasn’t begun the preparations for the next show. Instead he sits in the stands – he’s still in his wrestling gear – simply staring blankly at the ring where just an hour ago he lost the one thing that he wanted more than anything. The FTR World Heavyweight Title.
He is Rob Van Dam.
The Whole Fucking Show.
Mr. Monday Night.
Mr. PPV
Former FTR World Heavyweight Champion. Again.
Rob Van Dam leans back in the stadium seat and looks towards the lights as they blink off as the technicians dismantle. The same lights he was looking at when Eddie Guerrero pinned his shoulders to the mat after he nailed him with a frog splash. A frog splash of all things! The irony is thick in the air. He’s not alone any more.
Bill Alfonso: Rob, lets get you in the shower and cleaned up. Time for a beer or two or ten.
Rob Van Dam: I don’t want to drink.
Bill Alfonso: Let’s go do a bowl.
Rob Van Dam: …..
Bill Alfonso: Rob?
Rob Van Dam: I don’t want to smoke a bowl.
Bill Alfonso: What do you want to do?
Rob Van Dam: To get back what should be mine. To get back my World Heavyweight title. To take Eddie Guerrero apart piece by piece. To take his nephew Chavo and break every bone in his body.
Bill Alfonso: Well, Daddy-O that sounds like plan….of course you sound like Sabu would if he talked.
Rob Van Dam: I know. I just didn’t expect to be one of “them”. I’m better than that, I’m Rob Van Dam the Whole Fucking Show.
Bill Alfonso: Hey Daddy-O, I’m with you a hundred percent. Look, I was thinking that there is a good chance Team Extreme will be facing off against Los Guerreros in the Tag Team Tournament. That’s the perfect chance for you to get some revenge.
Rob Van Dam: Not good enough. But it’s a start.
The two stand and make their way to the locker rooms. Before passing through the curtain Van Dam takes one look back at the ring. A moment later he continues.
